Low Tide, Late Summer

As we near the end of summer I get nostalgic. I already mourn the loss of the warm glowing sun and seemingly endless days. Getting kids outside during the summer is easy and I want to take advantage of that as long as I can. If you live near the water or can travel to the beach, low tide is an absolutely wonderful place for children to relax on a warm evening.

With the rush of a normal day it is easy to sometimes forget about simple pleasures and how essential they are to our happiness. I took the kids out for low tide recently and it was absolutely magical. We go to the beach all the time but this is a special time of day to be there. After dinner I took two kids, some shovels and buckets, and a beach blanket and got in the car. We drove down the road to the beach and from there is was pure bliss.

At low tide the kids and I could walk forever and the water never got past our knees. On that day there was no wind so the water was like glass. My three year old and one year old wandered in and out of the water, so warm it felt like a bath. The ripples of sand on the bottom invited lots of digging and the sun glistening off the surface provided great photo opportunities for mom.

Just wanted to share the magic of this seemingly simple evening with everyone to stress that getting outside does not have to involve a lot of planning or prep work. Just go. See what happens. Every day hold something different but sometimes you get lucky and the stars align. The kids relax, no one is screaming, everyone is content. Now this doesn't happen all the time, but make it a habit to get outside and you'll find that it happens more times than not.

Enjoy the last days of summer ~ the sun is fading fast.
