The Heart of the Matter
One morning this week I took my kids on a walk through the woods. We wandered off the path just enough to make it a "real adventure" in their eyes. : ) Along the path were fallen trees and honestly I think my daughter could have stayed with the tree pictured below all day long. She was so enamored by it.
I titled this photo, "The Heart of the Matter" and then proceeded to do a little research. Did you know that trees have a pulse? I had no idea. We know that they "breathe". But they also communicate with each other...and how's that you might ask.
As an artist I am just in love with all the metaphors here. Funny thing is that I had no idea about the pulse when I titled the photo. It just felt right.
Want to learn more? You can start with the article, "Measuring the Pulse of Trees". And then move on to the TED talk, "How Trees Talk to Each Other".
These living breathing organisms are beautiful and fascinating. My daughter had a very real connection to this tree. Maybe there is something to be said about the phrase "tree huggers" after all!
