Oh Social Media. Phones by our sides 24/7. T.V. every night. Video Games. Texting. Ugh. We all have our little vices. Vices or should I say Devices.

I am not a big t.v. watcher. I'd much rather pick up a book in the evening before bed. But I do check my phone more often than I'd like. Sometimes out of habit. I don't think I have a problem with it but I would definitely hate to see the stats and find out how often I'm on it throughout the week. Would any of us really want to know (I mean really know) the amount of time each week we choose to interact with a screen rather than the real world?

I chose the picture for this post because as I put that dried rose in the the little glass bottle this afternoon it made me smile. Something so simple yet so beautiful. I want to make room for more of that in my life. Authenticity, Beauty, Simplicity, Joy.

As a person who loves to be outside and tries to live a conscious lifestyle, I often wonder what my world would be like if I could unplug. Get off the grid. Go tech free. Of course, for most of us, myself included, the ultimate tech free existence probably isn't going to happen. But what if we did a little experiment...

What would happen if for seven days you blocked out a set amount of time each day that you would normally be connected to one device or another and put it away to focus on RECHARGING YOUR BATTERIES?

What would you do with your time if you were not plugged into a device? How could you recharge and perhaps reconnect with yourself and perhaps your family via natural channels?

You can do this in the evening after the kids are in bed OR get them involved with the challenge and perhaps skip their screen time or put your phone away for the afternoon. Below I've listed out some suggestions for reconnecting if you aren't sure where to start...

10 Ways to Recharge and Reconnect with the Natural World

GO IT ALONE

Get Outside: Go for a walk and get lost in your thoughts

Feed Your Creativity: Make Art, Write, Play Music, Design or do whatever inspires you

Get Cooking: Get in the kitchen and put those conscious living recipes to the test

Converse: Have a conversation with someone without multi-tasking!

Show Gratitude: Do something special for someone else just because

Simplify: Find small ways to simplify your life and take action (however small) to make a change

WITH THE KIDS

Get Outside: Without having a phone in your hand or pocket!

Feed Your Creativity: Collect natural materials for future nature tables or craft projects.

Get Cooking: Invite the kids into the kitchen to help with or make meals depending on age

Converse: Use a shared experience outdoors as a starting point!

Show Gratitude: Small Seed: "Kid-Friendly Family Lessons on Gratitude"

Get in Tune: Some great Sound Play ideas for music through nature

Well, take some time and think about what you really want for yourself this week. I am looking forward to unplugging for a bit and I'm interested to see just how it changes things for me. I will most likely try to put the phone aside in the evenings after the kids go to bed since that is when I tend to be connected to a device the most. Figure out when your "peak" hours are and find a way to shut it down and disconnect. Hopefully we will all find that this allows us to Reconnect!

I will be posting daily on the facebook group @collectmakeexplore so check in for daily inspiration!
