DIY Wildflower Seed Bombs
Have you heard of "Seed Bombs"? They are so much fun! You throw these encased seeds anywhere there is dirt and then simply walk away. Let Mother Nature take over from there and wait for the seeds to grow! It's that simple.
For Earth Day, the kids and I made some easy Seed Bombs that I just had to share with you all. I've read various ways to make these and this method seemed the most straight forward. Plus we had all the materials on hand!
SEED BOMB Supplies:
- Wildflower Seed Mix
- Soil
- Water
- Thin Brown Paper Bags (think sandwich bags)
STEP ONE:
Mix equal amounts of seed and soil and add enough water to make dirt balls.
STEP TWO:
Cut or tear strips of paper about 4" long and wide enough to fit your dirt balls.
STEP THREE:
Since I used sandwich bags, the balls fit right inside! Place the dirt/ seed mixture in the middle of the bag so you can wrap it up.
STEP FOUR:
Wrap up your mixture like a little present and then twist the paper on top to secure. It will be a little wet and mushy so that kind of holds it together for you.
Place these beauties wherever there is dirt. You can grow flowers around the yard OR be a secret seed bomber and beautify parts of your town that may look a little unkempt....think construction sites, alley ways, etc.
The paper bags will deteriorate in about two weeks, give or take. If it rains a lot then your seeds will melt into the ground a bit faster. If you notice the ones around your yard looking a bit dry then feel free to water them to speed up the process!
The bees, butterflies, birds, and people nearby will thank you. : )
HAVE FUN!
